The preparations are now underway for the 1st KSS Luzon Award dubbed as “Hiyas” which the Cultural Center of the Philippines Cultural Exchange Department is spearheading with the Kaisa sa Sining (KSS) Luzon Network.

The said award is a triennial (every three years) award for outstanding and exemplary artists, cultural workers and creative organizations in the Luzon island group. Aligned with the regional awards implemented by the KSS Visayas and Mindanao, the Mindanao Gador Award in 2020 and the Visayas Ksslap award the following year. 2022 is the time for the KSS Luzon network to recognize its exceptional individuals and organizations who have contributed much to the flurry of arts, culture and creative sectors in the region.

Earlier this year, a five-member technical working committee was formed by the Cultural Exchange Department composed of key representatives from KSS Luzon organization with the department manager, Carmencita Bernado as the chair and lead facilitator.  The technical working committee for KSS Luzon awards 2022 are as follows: Rodel Fronda from Municipality of Guiguinto, Bulacan; Dr Randy Nobleza from Marinduque State College (MSC) Sentro ng Wika at Kultura; Ethan Ventura of the St. Louis University, Baguio and Veronique Duma Berdin representing University of Sto. Tomas Legazpi, Albay. 

Everyone from the Kaisa sa Sining Regional Art Center in Luzon who has a nomination can accomplish a form indicating the name, category: (artist, cultural worker, arts/cultural organization or artist/cultural worker along with pertinent details like major artistic and cultural achievements with supporting audio-visual materials. 

The general criteria are the following: creative work, leadership, resource management, education, artist support, audience development, community service, solidarity and partnership, lastly reverence by peers and communities s/he serves. The awarding ceremony will be held in August while the venue/site will be determined on a later date considering the status of community quarantine, the awarding program will be hybrid and flexible with online and onsite activities.
