Makati, Philippines – On December 12, 2024, Marinduque State University (MarSU) took a significant step towards enhancing its human resource management practices by conducting a benchmarking activity at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in Makati City. This activity is part of MarSU’s ongoing efforts to achieve the PRIME HR Maturity Level III certification.

With all the support from the administration led by MarSU President, Prof. Dr. Diosdado P. Zulueta, the benchmarking activity was conducted through the initiatives of HRMU task force led by Ms. E. Reyes (Supervising Admin. Officer & Head, HRMU). Additionally, they were also joined by the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Asst. Prof. Raoul J. Magcamit. The visit involved a comprehensive presentation of the SEC’s HR practices, which is a recent recipient of the PRIME HRM Maturity Level III. The goal of the visit was to gain insights into best practices and innovative strategies that MarSU can adopt to strengthen its own HR systems.

The SEC HR Department OIC, Mr. Ricky M. Abundo, welcomed the MarSU delegates, followed by the discussion of Ms. Dianne A. Dimaguila (SEC Performance Management Officer IV) about Competency-Based Human Resources, Performance Management by Ms. Via Lianne Pugay-Garcia (SEC L&D Officer III), Rewards and Recognition by Ms. Michelle B. Lee (SEC Compensation & Benefits Officer V), Learning and Development by Mr. David Dominic Lanuza (SEC Supervising Learning & Development Officer) & Mr. Mark Moses H. Pagdonsolan (SEC Learning & Development Officer III), and Human Resources Management Information System by Ms. Roan Denzil S. Alvarado (SEC Employee Services Officer V). The MarSU officials and personnel were given a detailed presentation on the SEC’s HR processes, including recruitment, selection, learning and development, performance management, and rewards and recognition.

Dubbed as home of the champions, the SEC’s success in achieving the highest level of HR maturity serves as a model for MarSU as it strives to enhance its HR practices and align them with international standards. Ms. Marjorie C. Dacillo (SEC Assistant Director, HRD) and Ms. Florielei G. Sih (OIC-Assistant Director, HRD) gave the closing message who emphasized that the support of the top management is a crucial factor in attaining the success of PRIME HR journey.
On the other hand, Asst. Prof. Raoul Magcamit (Vice President for Academic Affairs) highlighted in his message the importance of this benchmarking activity as a crucial step in our journey towards HR excellence and by learning from the best practices of the SEC, the creation of a more efficient and effective HR system that supports MarSU faculty, staff, and students would be possible with all the integration of best practices and systems.

The insights gained from this benchmarking activity will be used to develop and implement improvements in MarSU’s HR practices, ultimately contributing to the university’s goal of achieving the PRIME HR Maturity Level III certification. This certification will not only validate MarSU’s commitment to HR excellence but also enhance its reputation as a leading educational institution.
