Mons, Belgium — In the continuous affirmation of the Philippines’ commitment to sustainability and interdisciplinary collaboration, Marinduque State University represented by Prof. Diosdado P. Zulueta attended the 26th Society for Human Ecology (SHE) International Conference, held from 18–21 July 2025 at the University of Mons, Belgium. With the overarching theme “Ecology, Politics and Justice: Working towards the Pluriverse,” the event brought together global scholars, policymakers, and practitioners to engage in critical dialogue on environmental justice and transformative ecological futures.
Accompanying President Zulueta was Dr. Evangeline B. Mandia (Dean, College of Environmental Studies), a staunch advocate for inclusive education and community-based ecological practices. Their participation signified the university’s active involvement in international academic discourse and its commitment to shaping a just and sustainable future.
Throughout the four-day conference, President Zulueta and Dr. Mandia joined multidisciplinary conversations on the intersections of ecology, sociopolitical structures, and justice, contributing insights drawn from local experiences and the Philippine context. The conference also served as a platform to network with counterparts from across continents, fostering scholarly exchange and collaborative opportunities in human ecology research and education.
Their presence at SHE 2025 not only amplified the voice of the Global South but also underscored the role of higher education institutions in leading ecological stewardship and transformative change. As the world envisions a pluriverse, a world where many worlds coexist, President Zulueta’s attendance highlighted the university’s proactive role in imagining and creating sustainable futures grounded in justice, diversity, and resilience.
