Boac, Marinduque, Philippines — The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas South Luzon Regional Office is currently in the province of Marinduque for the BSP Information Caravan which is a weeklong learning session with the various sectors in Marinduque from August 12-14, 2024.
The special learning session for media practitioners and Information Officers of LGUs and other government agencies was held at ROJAZ Events Place, Santol, Boac, Marinduque on February 13, 2024. Headed by MarSU President, Prof. Dr. Diosdado P. Zulueta with full support to the activity, Ms. Desiree Anne Sto. Domingo-Information Unit Head attended the session which aims to promote the programs and advocacies of the BSP SLRO and provide a platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration. They also introduced the Piso Caravan where participants can exchange unfit and mutilated legal tender currencies for e-money from participating banks.
Atty. Ronaldo Bermudez, Area Director, BSP Puerto Princesa Branch, welcomed the participants and emphasized the important role of social media in educating people regarding financial literacy and eventually avoiding being a victim of fraudulent activities that involve financial transactions. He also emphasized the importance of sustainable banking programs, financial inclusivity, and access to financial products and services to help everyone make sound financial decisions.
The first Learning Session was about “Know your Money and the 1,000 Piso-Polymer Banknote” which was discussed by Jose Robert S. Almeda, Jr.-Bank Officer II who informed the participants on the New Generation Currency Series & the 1000 Piso-Polymer Banknote. Additionally, Mr. Kit Hidalgo-Bank Officer, discussed “Fraud and Scam Prevention” which centered on protecting every individual by knowing the types of fraud and scam, what to do when encountered, and who/where to report incidents.
On the other hand, 10 MarSU Social Science faculty members and 20 students, headed by Asst. Prof. Raoul J. Magcamit-Vice President for Academic Affairs, also attended the special learning session in the afternoon.
Additionally, participants were given commemorative coins and paper banknotes as prizes for their active participation together with the Primer and other IEC materials such as The Philippine Currency Fitness Guide, The BSP Consumer Assistance Mechanism System (CAMS), Online Banking, Digital Literacy, Financial Planning 101 Your Guide to a Secure Financial Future, Protect yourself from Fraud and Scams, How Much Do You Know About Fraud and Scams, and The Mystery of the Missing Money: A BSP comics on inflation.
